2009 was a special year for Jackson, who began the year by winning the National Indoor Hockey Championships after returning to East Grinstead for the winter’s English indoor hockey season and finished it as World Young Player of the Year. In between, he was a key member of the England Hockey squad that won the EuroHockey Nations Championships in the Netherlands in August, England’s first major tournament win for 80 years. His eight goals, including two in the dramatic final against Germany, were central to England’s success.

In November, Ashley and his international teammates travelled to Melbourne for the Champions Trophy where he was announced as the World Young Player of the Year 2009, an accolade voted for by his fellow international hockey players and coaches.

Ashley is currently (March 2010) playing for England Hockey at the Hero Honda FIH World Cup in Delhi and is looking forward to returning to the Indian city for the Commonwealth Games in October.
