Cycling: England miss out on first day in the velodrome
05 October 2010
England came away from the velodrome without medals on the first day of track cycling in Delhi.
Competing in her first Commonwealth Games, 22-year-old Amy Blyth came seventh in the women’s 500m time trial final in a time of 36.807.
Blyth, who should feature in the women’s 10km scratch and the 3000m individual pursuit later in the week, said it was good to get going.
She said: “It was alright, a couple of tenths down on where I was in the nationals but it’s good to get a race out of the way.”
Youngster Laura Trott withdrew from the event before the start.
George Atkins and Erick Rowsell also made their Commonwealth Games debuts in the men’s individual pursuit qualifiers. Both English cyclists missed out on a place in the final with Atkins coming eighth at 4:34.490 and Roswell placing tenth in 4:39.710.
England’s men feature in the first round of the keirin, the 40km points race and the sprint qualifiers tomorrow, while the women take to the track in the 25km points race.
