General: England Chef Praises Games Village
17 September 2010
England’s Chef de Mission Craig Hunter, and his advance-party staff, took a tour of the Commonwealth Games Village this week in Delhi and was pleased with what he saw.
“The Village will be fantastic. We will begin working there today and, once the final security lockdown is complete, we will begin living there from the weekend onwards”.
“The accommodation for England is looking good and yesterday they began the final deep-clean”, he said.
“The training facilities for several sports on-site are first class and we are looking forward to the Games”.
England has registered its 371 athletes today for the Games – the largest overseas contingent of all-time, beating the Melbourne 2006 figures by 23 athletes.
England’s 12 rugby players were announced yesterday – the last sport to be announced in an 11-month build up which started with the naming of the Lawn Bowls players last year.
Olympic champions Rebecca Adlington and Christine Ohuruogu are on the team-sheet for the Games as are Olympic cycling silver medalist Emma Pooley and defending Commonwealth Champions Phillips Idowu and Lisa Dobriskey.
