Team England’s triathletes for the Commonwealth Games have been revealed today.

Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee is joined by his brother, Olympic bronze medallist and 2012 World Champion Jonathan Brownlee and former National Champion Aaron Harris. The women’s trio is headed by 2013 World Championship silver medallist Jodie Stimpson who will be joined by Vicky Holland and Lucy Hall.

The team will all race as individuals on the first day of competition and then just two days later four of them – two men and two women – will team up to compete in the mixed relay, a first for the Commonwealth Games. Each participant will compete in a super sprint triathlon before tagging their teammate. Both races happen at Strathclyde Country Park.

Alistair Brownlee said: “To win a medal at a home games is something every athlete wants to achieve and I feel very lucky to have this opportunity again just two years on from London. Having the crowd behind you provides a huge boost and I can’t wait to get to Strathclyde Park and give it my best.”

Jonathon Brownlee said: “To win a medal at the Commonwealth Games would be really special and I’m looking forward to the challenge. We’re into a heavy block of training at the moment with the aim of being ready to represent Team England in Glasgow.”

Jodie Stimpson said: The closer it gets to the Commonwealth Games the more excited I’m getting. It’s a major home games and it will be brilliant to represent Team England in front of my friends and family in Strathclyde Park. Having missed out on the Olympics I’m doubly determined to be up there and fighting for a medal in Glasgow.

Team England Chef de Mission Jan Paterson said: "This is a hugely talented group of athletes that have been selected to the triathlon squad and I'd like to welcome each of them as it is the first time any of them will have competed at a Commonwealth Games.

"Not only will they compete in the individual events but also in the relay triathlon which is making its Commonwealth Games debut so a very exciting prospect for us all."

Lucy Hall said: “I’ve raced at Strathclyde Park before. It’s a familiar venue for me, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it looks with 40,000 spectators. If the atmosphere is anything like it was in London then it’s going to be amazing! I’m really proud to be part of it.”

Aaron Harris said: “This is the first time I’ve been selected to be part of Team England at a Commonwealth Games. It means a lot to me because England will be a very competitive in triathlon, so I hope I can race well for the country in Glasgow 2014.”

Vicky Holland said: “I'm delighted to be selected to represent Team England at my first Commonwealth Games. I'm excited to race in a home nation for another major championships and hope to experience something close to the phenomenal level of support that we received at the London Olympics.”
