Olympic medallist Dan Goodfellow has experienced a lot in the last year, but the Team England diver has no time to reflect as he prepares for the 2018 Gold Coast Games.

After winning bronze at Rio in the 10m synchro with friend and teammate Tom Daley, Goodfellow has experienced a phenomenal 12 months.

But now it’s all eyes on the Gold Coast for the 20-year-old as he prepares to return to Australia after last competing Down Under in the Junior World Championships.

He said: “The Junior World Championships was in Adelaide and I love the place. I’ve also been there in 2015 for a warm weather camp which is actually in the pool they’re going to use for the Commonwealth Games.

“The facilities are great, the place is great and I think everyone is really excited for it. I know Australia’s diving team are really strong at the minute.”

And after the successes in the Rio 2016 Games, the Cambridge-born athlete is taking nothing for granted with so much talent around him, as he looks to secure his own place in Team England’s squad.

“There’s a lot of good depth in quality right now,” he said. “There used to be only two people that could challenge for the top spots but not there’s four or five divers all going for those two or three spots so these guys are amazing.

“I think it’s probably sparked from the success we had last year in Rio but British Diving is the best it’s ever been, probably the next best country to China.”

Despite only making his senior debut in 2013, Dan credits the role of diving partner and friend Tom Daley for helping him bridge the difference between juniors and seniors.

He said: “Tom has a lot more experience than me and he’s sort of an old man of the sport now.

“He’s been a mentor to me and gives me advice on everything because Rio was my first Olympic Games and he was able to give me an insight on what it was actually like.

“Having him there was amazing and we get on really well. You need to be able to get on well as a synchro pairing so as a team I think we work really well together that’s shown in the results we had last year.”
