Yorkshire boxer Jack Bateson stars in a new video aimed at raising support for England at next year’s Commonwealth Games.

The video, commissioned by Andy Bate, Communications Manager at Commonwealth Games England (CGE), and produced by Formidable Productions, features the Leeds-born light flyweight sparring with colleagues at the English Institute of Sport’s gym in Sheffield.

Jack is aiming for a place in the England team’s boxing squad next year and has signed up as an England Ambassador, along with the likes of Britain’s greatest ever gymnast Beth Tweddle and former badminton world champion Nathan Robertson.

Speaking after being appointed an Ambassador Jack said:

“It’s a great honour to be an England Ambassador and I am really pleased to have joined the Programme.

“I have some very fond memories of the Commonwealth Youth Games when I won gold and I can’t wait until Glasgow 2014 which I’m working hard to be selected for.

“I was really pleased to be asked to feature in the new CGE video and I hope it can generate some excitement for next year.”

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games take place between July 23rd and August 3rd next year with England set to send it’s biggest ever team, packed with big names.

Two big names from the nation’s past also feature in the video, with clips from the 1986 Commonwealth Games of athletics legends Daley Thompson and Steve Cram, who both won gold that year.

CGE Chief Executive Adam Paker said of the video:

“This film helps communicate the ambition and commitment of athletes at the Games. It is key for our organisation to communicate the value of our brand to potential sponsors and to encourage awareness and support for the English team at the Games.

“We are very grateful to Jack for taking part in the filming of the video and joining our Ambassadors Programme. We look forward to charting his progress as we head towards Glasgow.”
